“Fried” Rice


Bean sprouts


This recipe was adapted from Bethenny Frankel’s Un-fried rice recipe.  This is a great way to use your own bean sprouts, or you can use store bought bean sprouts.


1 cup chopped onions (regular or green onions)
1 1/2 cups shredded chicken (optional)
3 cups leftover brown rice
1 1/2 cups bean sprouts
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon chili oil
1/2 teaspoon dried ginger
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup liquid egg whites


In a large skillet over high heat, sauté the onions until soft, add the bean spouts and cook for a few more minutes.  Put ingredients to the side and add egg whites.  Scramble and add remaining ingredients.  Serve immediately.

  2. I am researching sprouting seeds to make my own “granola.” Have you tried sprouting seeds or just beans?

    This fried rice recipe looks fantastic!

    • I have not tried sprouting seeds yet. There are some pretty good videos on you tube for sprouting broccoli sprouts, alfalfa sprouts etc. I have been meaning to try doing the broccoli because they are so much higher in sulforaphane than mature broccoli. You may have just giving me an idea for a new post :-).
      What type of “granola” are you planning to make? That sounds interesting. Hope you like the fried rice if you end up making it! Don’t forget to check back for the broccoli sprouts post…
